WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN DOING?

He looked me intently into the eyes, with humility and a great sense of urgency, and said: "young man, live your life now right, it is from its fruit you will eat tomorrow".

You see, what you are doing with life now largely determines how your latter shall be, and who or what you are now is a reflection of what you have been doing with life. Life doesn't just happen, it is a deliberate venture.

So after almost a year of writing and sharing, I had to take time out to refresh (oh how I enjoyed the break), I am glad I am back, so let's pick up from where we left, shall we?

In my new year piece, I shared some random thoughts that I believed would be instrumental in our life's journey. I would like to recap them again to enable us to assess the progress of the first quarter of this year.

  • About making each day count: How intentional have you been in giving life your best shot every passing day?

  • About being grateful: I learned that gratitude is a ladder, and on days where the logical thing to do is complain, give thanks. This is a mystery.

  • Regarding investing time: How efficient have you been using time? Is time your ally or foe?

  • Building relationships: Are your relationships circumstantial or intentional? You can't go farther or see further than your circle of relationships

  • About growth and being valuable: You can't just run away from this, it is either you grow and build capacity or you are benched in the game of life.

  • Have the right attitude towards failure: This will determine whether you get back up after being knocked down or you stay on the ground. There is a difference between failure as an event and as a person, once you know the line between the two you will have the right attitude towards failure.

  • You can't make headway with your legs still in the past, leave the past in the past. Forgive yourself and move on.

  • Cultivate good character, I tell you character is a priceless asset that will advertise you in the business of life.

  • Stretch: Most young people want to achieve their dreams by sleeping, but it doesn't work that way. You have to stretch and sweat it out, great things come at a price. The rule is to get out of your comfort zone or it kills you.

  • Love God and serve humanity: This is like a summary of our lives in five words. Nothing beats a life that is bent on achieving this.

There is much we have to learn this year, so let's gear up, roll up our sleeves, and get down to work. Our world awaits us, but it awaits the greater and transformed version of who we are.

Again, what have you been doing with your life so far this year?

Thank you for reading

DO YOUR THING - IN YOUR SKIN

This piece is from my archives but for the sake of this series, I had to dust it up. It is a bit long, but it is for you - yes you. So take a few minutes and go through this with an open mind, who knows, it just might change your life. One year ago I was having a conversation with this lady with whom we have been discussing life, she said to me: “Sir, I have something that is eating me deep inside and I will need help with it; people have been making fun of me because of my body structure, I have been working hard to add some flesh but it is not working, I hate being called a smally”.  I strongly believe that to make life count you honestly have to love yourself, love who you are now and are becoming, and constantly remind yourself that you are a masterpiece, God's work of art, one of a kind, custom-made limited edition person. What I am saying in essence is, to make life count, you have to be comfortable in your skin. In Your Own Skin To be comfortable in your skin is to be you an...

THE GREATEST DISTRACTOR

I have been struggling to choose the best approach to write this piece; whether to start with statistics of what researchers have done, quotes from great minds or even illustrations. However, I realized that the best way is to hit the nail on the head, straight, simple and blunt. (And I don't claim that this piece capture all there is to this issue).  This piece is a follow-up to the one I wrote last week on distraction. After long deep thought, I felt the message will not be complete without adding this perspective to it. I assure you this simple and blunt piece will stare you in the face and show you one of the ways you have been letting part of your life slip past your fingers. We all are guilty when it comes to this. In the last piece, I established that not all distractions appear harmful as some wear innocent looks but are highly detrimental. I also said that it takes diligence and meticulousness to understand and overcome them.  Hence, to overcome this great dist...

JUST A DAY OFF

Disclaimer The message of this piece may or may not be for everybody, however I pray that somehow you relate with these few words and make sense out of it. O ne of the things I have been consistent with this year is “morning runs”; I exercise three times a week, alternating between the week days. The entire experience became more fun when one of my friends became my neighbour few months ago, and we began running together. Well, what we do every day we go running is adding upon the distance we covered previously and no matter how small the addition is, it gives us a sense of improvement. However, lately, we have been overwhelmed with life and personal struggles that we often skip our morning exercise, and prior to now that I am writing this piece, it has been almost two weeks that we have not gone running. W hat we discovered and even talked about while running this morning (5:27am, Saturday October 24 th , 2020)   was that in as much as our body systems have adopted ...
