SPRINKLE IT AROUND

So a friend who is doing very well in her catering business shared a screenshot of her conversation with a client yesterday on Facebook, and I was honestly amazed because what I saw was a confirmation of the burden I have been brooding over lately.  Let me share this with you in the screenshot image below. What comes to mind when you see things like this? After seeing this, I asked myself a series of questions. Do good people still exist? If they do, what is the substance they are made up of? What are their works? Do they need to make some loud noise about what they do?  If I may ask, what is your definition of kindness?  I know you have heard this word like a million times but what does it mean to you? I feel like expressing this in my mother tongue due to how intense this is in my mind but let me try with this borrowed official language so we all may understand.  Kindness is Everything (kindnessiseverything.com) defines kindness as " the sincere and voluntary use of one’s time

IT IS FOR YOUR GOOD

After my NYSC, I honestly wanted to venture into academia. In 2018, I dropped an application for a graduate assistant in my alma mater, hoping to get in and further my studies at the same time. Well, I didn't get in. Afterwards, I worked with a printing press where I was exposed to the printing rudiments, street life and a lot of operational errands for two years. Again, from there I also worked with an agro startup that works with smallholder farmers that grow climate-smart crops for almost two years. Nothing was making sense to me, it was about the little cash coming in that enables me to pay bills and keep life going. (Even though it was not adequate; I can remember days I had absolutely nothing and had to sleep on an empty stomach). I honestly didn't know I was being prepared for what I have today.  So for the past few weeks, we have been talking about the process of BECOMING, what the process entails and some things that are involved. By now it might have been a cliché, bu

Two Things are Involved

So I boarded a bike last Sunday to the gas plant to refill, and after negotiations, we agreed on a transportation fee. While going I engaged the bike guy in a conversation and we talked about how young people value money more than strategic relationships these days. (now don't get me wrong, money is important).  He shared with me how he once picked a passenger/stranger who pleaded that he only had #200 for the fee of service worth #400. He initially declined but the passenger insisted he reconsider, which he did after some moment of thinking. On their way, the man asked him about whose bike he is using, and he said he hires the bike and remits a certain amount daily. The man now asked him if he is willing to take a bike and be responsible for it till the weekend before he remits an agreed amount. The bike man thought it was a dream or a big joke, if not how can a stranger he just picked a few minutes ago be willing to trust him with a bike? To cut the long story short, the young

What BECOMING Entails

I would like to start this piece with an emphasis that there is no other way to become or arrive without staying through and remaining true in the process of your life's making. The few points I will share with you today are not new, but they are new. They are not new because you know them by name, but new because every time they demand obedience from us, giving in becomes hard and strange. I desire that after reading this piece, you will count the cost and pay the proportional price of letting them finish their work in your life. The process of your making will require: Patience: Patience is not only waiting but waiting with the right kind of attitude. It entails not losing it even when all the odds of keeping your cool are against you. Truth is, you cannot amount to anything in life without patience. History is scattered with the story of so many young people who through impatience shipwrecked their lives. Dear you, you need patience.  Persistence: Patience gives birth to pe

You Are BECOMING

Sometimes in the years 2005 and 2006, I was exposed to tin mining for the first time. Beyond the stress and rigors involved, what piqued my curiosity was the several processes we had to meticulously employ to arrive at getting the tin at the end of the day. The first process is to sample the site to ensure that it has the tin you are looking for, if the result is affirmative then you go on digging and gathering as much of the sand as you can. The next process is to wash the sand via a well-crafted channel to get the tin. You should note here that sometimes you can gather as much as a trip of sand but the tin you will mine out of it could be very small. The entire process requires patience, meticulousness, and persistence. What kept us going was the joy of getting something when it's all been said and done. Life is not in any way different from this, it is a link and interlinks of processes, with one end leading to another beginning. To become who you want to be in life, requires

THE PROCESS

Dear Young People, Life is a Process I apologize for the silence these few weeks, I had to set some things to enable us to have a smooth sail here. The word process is a word young people don't want to hear. Succinctly, most young people don't even want to get acquainted with it. Young people are often in a hurry, always pressing and pushing to get what they want at the time they want, not minding the cost or who gets hurt. This year alone I have talked to countless young people who are growing impatient with life and how things are turning out for them. At the bottom of it, all I see is they are finding ways to bypass the process of life.  A pastor shared an analogy that somehow relates to this, it may be a bit sarcastic but it carries a deep undertone. He said at this age, we eat agric chicken that is six weeks old, whereas we cannot even try eating a local chicken of eight weeks. He added that we are so addicted to agriculturally improved products to the point that we are

DEAR YOUNG PEOPLE

If you would do one thing that will honestly alter the cause of your life for good, would you do that without minding the cost? Reading this piece would be one of those. A few days ago a friend called me and we got talking. I asked about how her life has been and she shared what would be the challenge of most if not all young people out there - "nothing seems to be working". What I will be sharing in the next few weeks stems out of my conversation with her and forgive my bias, this would be for young people. I will be writing letters to young people, it will be true, relatable, straightforward, and radically life-transforming. Please follow diligently. This will be an introductory piece. Dear young people,  Ours is a generation where life is hard, things are constantly on the move and everyone is in a hurry to make both ends meet. People cut corners to achieve certain set goals, people do all manner of things not minding the aftermath if only they can get what they want, pe
