THE DAVID'S CARD

What do you do when you fall? How do you respond to defeat? What is your attitude when you are on the ground? This piece will relate to us all because it is not the question of if we fall or taste defeat, but the question of when we fall and taste defeat. I will share the stories of two great kings, their failures and how they both responded differently when they hit rock bottom. Somehow, I believe the little I will share will serve as part of what we carry along in our journey of life. Saul was a great king who came to power as a child of circumstances to rule over Israel, what a favour. On a heel of disobedience to God's instruction, he went out of his jurisdiction and offered a sacrifice he wasn't supposed to. Yes, he was caught red-handed, and the ideal thing to do was to confess, repent and admit his wrong, but well, he defended his actions and made the situation worse.  David on the other hand was a king, who ought to be on the battlefield but chose the balcony instead...

INFLUENCE - THE MISSING LINK

I reviewed a book yesterday title: " Influence: Leading without Position" written by Philip E. Morrison and Hankuri Tawus Gaya. I sense it is timely I share with you what I learned. This may not capture everything in the book, but I hope these words add value to your life and make you a better person. From the Beginning; Growing Up Like any other young person growing up, there are few leadership myths that our society has forced down our throats as Nigerians/Africans; unless we challenge these erroneous myths and pre-conceived notions, we will never rise to the place of true change, prominence, influence and transformation. Below are some of the myths: Leadership is highly positional, title-based and authoritative Leadership is for the old and not for the young The young has nothing to offer in terms of leadership  Leadership is when you have the power to make others do what you want even when they don’t want or see the reason to. Addressing the Issues  It is with the ...

THE GREATEST DISTRACTOR

I have been struggling to choose the best approach to write this piece; whether to start with statistics of what researchers have done, quotes from great minds or even illustrations. However, I realized that the best way is to hit the nail on the head, straight, simple and blunt. (And I don't claim that this piece capture all there is to this issue).  This piece is a follow-up to the one I wrote last week on distraction. After long deep thought, I felt the message will not be complete without adding this perspective to it. I assure you this simple and blunt piece will stare you in the face and show you one of the ways you have been letting part of your life slip past your fingers. We all are guilty when it comes to this. In the last piece, I established that not all distractions appear harmful as some wear innocent looks but are highly detrimental. I also said that it takes diligence and meticulousness to understand and overcome them.  Hence, to overcome this great dist...

DISTRACTIONS

About a week ago, a brother was sharing about an evergreen issue that has been with us for as long as man has been. It was to a group of young people and I sense it was timely because lately, I have been brooding over the same issue personally. Permit me to share a bit with you, perhaps it just might change your life. The topic of discourse was DISTRACTIONS. the crux of his message was, the devil has no issue with you being born or designed for greatness, but one thing he is majorly preoccupied with is orchestrating suitable and multifaceted distractions that will enable you to just live with the idea of greatness in your head but not live in the reality of the same. Distraction is something or someone who distracts; this simply means that your attention is being diverted and you have been veered off course. I see something here, there can only be a distraction when there is a set goal to achieve, distractions can only be effective and potent when you have a destiny and purpose to fulf...

FAITHFULNESS

Four years back, I was having a conversation with my aged father, and he said something thought-provoking to me, he said to me: “Son, faithfulness is long gone in this your generation, life has changed and things are not as obtained in our time”. Afterwards, several questions kept coming to my mind about faithfulness, and gauging it with my life, I understood that faithfulness is not just a word but a basic principle of life.  Faithfulness is the state of being faithful, being faithful simply means being loyal, having faith, being reliable and worthy of trust. Faithfulness in its real sense and essence is a trait to be exhibited in everything we do or say and not a postulated theory that needs to be validated or otherwise.  The application of the word faithfulness has no exception because of its relevance and implication span from the minutest to the maximal detail of our lives. If only we as people created by an ever-faithful God and in his image will internalize the reality ...

OURS TO CHANGE

Sometimes in 2019 I wrote and published a piece titled “ Ours to change ” against the 2019 general election; inferring from the current unfolding of events in our nation, I am left with no option than to retouch this piece and share it again as it carries some nuggets that will guide us as we commemorate the 2021 democracy day. However, the burden I have is heavier than this single piece; hence I will try to capture that which is relevant for the season – June 12th. Our Current Reality   "NEXT LEVEL”, “LETS GET NIGERIA WORKING AGAIN”; I know these two slogans strike a chord in your faculty of reasoning. However, do they in any way provoke nostalgic and saddening thoughts in your mind? Can you say with a significant degree of certitude that you are comfortable with the pragmatic connotative and denotative meaning of these words? As long as these words are concerned, the questions can go on and on in the quest of finding constructive, society-oriented and definite answers. For the p...

THE MIRACLE

This will be one of my shortest and straight the point piece. I pray that you behold the wonder therein.  S o last week was a tough long week for me. It started like any other normal week but panned out beyond my imagination. You see, I dragged with my health, almost a week without proper sleep, with pains, shivers, tears and loss of appetite. I was reminded of a reality we often take for granted. We live in a world that craves wonder and miracle, daily people long for another event, new episode or fresh scenario that will give them that "wow" thrill. Even the unbeliever cannot disbelief in a tangible miracle. Yet, we have the greatest of all miracle with us daily that we fail to see and relish. In my travail last week, I was reminded of those that hitherto have spent most of their lives in the hospital, or visiting the doctors. My attention was drawn to those who have the knowledge, power, access, money, and all the right connections but cannot enjoy good health. I was rem...
